Position Overview Today's Business is a U.S.-based digital marketing agency seeking a Part-Time SEO Copywriter to produce original, human-written content for our client roster and owned media brands. This role is 100% writing-focused: you will receive keyword-driven content briefs and turn them into polished, publish-ready blog articles, website pages, and category pages across a wide range of industries — including healthcare/medical practices, home services (countertops, windows, flooring), e-commerce, food and beverage, and men's lifestyle content.
This is not a generic content mill role. Our clients pay for expert-feeling, brand-specific writing that reads like it was written by someone who actually understands the subject and the audience. Content must be 100% original, human-written work — AI-generated or AI-assisted copy (ChatGPT, Claude, Jasper, or similar tools used to draft or substantially generate the piece) is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate rejection of the piece and, for repeat instances, termination of the contract.
Primary Responsibilities
Write SEO-optimized blog articles, guides, listicles, category pages, and website copy based on content briefs provided by our SEO team
Naturally incorporate target keywords, secondary keywords, and search intent without keyword stuffing
Match each client's specific brand voice and tone (e.g., clinical and trustworthy for a medical practice, premium and editorial for a menswear brand, technical and consultative for a home services brand)
Structure content properly for on-page SEO: H1/H2/H3 hierarchy, meta title and meta description suggestions, internal linking suggestions, and scannable formatting
Research each topic thoroughly enough to write knowledgeably — this may include reviewing competitor content, client websites, and provided source material
Submit drafts on time via Google Docs and track assignment status in
Incorporate editor and account manager feedback and revisions promptly
Run all content through plagiarism-checking before submission
Flag any content brief that is unclear, incomplete, or missing information needed to write accurately
Flag proactively if an assignment is running well over its expected time so we can adjust scope rather than let quality slip
Content Types You'll Be Writing
Long-form SEO blog articles (guides, listicles, comparison posts, "best of" roundups)
Website page copy (service pages, category pages, About Us, location pages)
Multi-location/area-served pages requiring unique, non-templated content per location
Product and category descriptions for e-commerce clients
Occasional
Daily Output Expectations This role is paid hourly, with a clear production target attached so both sides know what a successful day looks like:
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 4 hours per day (~20 hours/week)
Target output: approximately 2,000–2,500 words per day (roughly 10,000–12,500 words per week) of finished, approved copy
We track this as a word-count target rather than a fixed number of articles, because our content varies a lot in complexity. A well-researched medical or financial piece takes meaningfully longer per word than a lifestyle listicle or a templated location page — the word-count target accounts for that naturally instead of penalizing you for taking the time a harder topic actually needs.
In practice this typically lands around 3–4 pieces on lighter content days and 1–2 pieces on more technical/research-heavy days
If a brief is genuinely taking longer than the target implies, tell us — we'd rather adjust the day's scope than have the extra time show up as rushed research or thinner copy
Qualifications
Excellent, fluent written English — native or near-native command of grammar, idiom, and natural sentence flow (this work is client-facing and represents real brands to real customers)
Proven SEO copywriting experience with a portfolio of published work you can share
Strong research skills and the ability to write competently across varied industries and technical subject matter
Comfortable working from structured content briefs and keyword lists
Highly organized and able to hit deadlines consistently without close supervision
Familiarity with basic on-page SEO principles (keyword placement, header structure, meta descriptions)
Experience with Google Docs, Google Sheets, and
Must be willing to complete a paid or unpaid writing sample/test assignment as part of the application process
Must be able to demonstrate that submitted work is original (we may ask you to share your drafting process, research notes, or writing history for verification)
What Will Get You Removed From This Role
Any content identified as AI-generated or AI-paraphrased
Any content identified as plagiarized or lifted from another source
Consistently missing the word-count target without flagging it in advance
Missed deadlines without advance communication
Repeated disregard for a client's brand voice or content brief after feedback
Schedule
Monday through Friday
4 hours per day (start time to be agreed, aligned with core collaboration hours with the US-based Eastern Time team for brief clarifications and feedback)
Remote position
Compensation
$100 USD per week for 20 hours (Monday–Friday, 4 hours/day)
Tied to the daily output target above — consistent delivery against the word-count expectation is part of the role, not optional
Success Metrics
Consistent delivery against the daily/weekly word-count target
Low revision rate (briefs followed accurately the first time)
Zero plagiarism or AI-detection flags
Positive feedback from account managers on voice-matching and readability
Proactive communication when a brief is running long, rather than silently falling behind or cutting corners
How to Apply Please include:
A short writing sample or link to 2–3 published articles you've written (ideally SEO content)
A brief note on which industries/topics you have the most experience writing about
Your availability (confirm you can commit to 4 hours/day, Monday–Friday)
