JOB OVERVIEW

# Senior Graphic Designer — Billboard / Out-of-Home (Print & Digital Production)

Project-based to start (45+ billboard designs), with ongoing work for the right person

---

We need an experienced large-format / out-of-home (OOH) designer to turn our brand templates and approved copy into print-ready and digital-ready billboard artwork for a multi-board campaign thanking U.S. members of Congress — about **15 officials × 3 message variations = 45+ boards** — plus ongoing campaigns after this one.

You will take our existing concepts, brand colors (navy/gold), copy, and portrait photos and build **vendor-ready files for Lamar, Clear Channel Outdoor, and OUTFRONT**. This is real print-production work — not social media graphics — so you must understand building at scale, CMYK, bleed/safety areas, and how to package files to a vendor spec sheet.

## What you'll do

- Design and produce **14? × 48? static bulletin** and **digital bulletin** artwork from our brand template and copy.
- Build every file to the **exact vendor spec sheet** (size, scale, resolution, color mode, bleed, safety area) for Lamar / Clear Channel Outdoor / OUTFRONT.
- Professionally **cut out / mask portrait photos** (clean edges on hair and shoulders) and composite them onto brand backgrounds.
- Maintain a **consistent template system** across 45+ variations using master files, smart objects, and styles.
- Apply OOH best practices: short readable copy (?7 words), large legible type, high contrast, correct legal disclaimer placement.
- Prepare **print-ready packaged files** (CMYK, outlined fonts, embedded/linked images, PDF/X export) and **RGB digital JPGs**.
- Source or recommend **high-resolution photography** where our supplied images are too small for print.
- Handle revisions, proofs, and "overage" copy; hit vendor deadlines (copy is typically due ~10 working days before a board runs).

## Required skills & experience

- **3+ years** professional graphic design with **real large-format / OOH / billboard or print-production experience** (portfolio required).
- **Expert in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop** (InDesign a plus).
- Strong **typography and layout** — you understand legibility at distance.
- Professional **photo cutout / masking / retouching**.
- Solid **print production** knowledge: CMYK, resolution-at-scale (building 1 inch = 1 foot), bleed & safety area, rich black, packaging files, and PDF/X export.
- Understanding of **digital OOH** requirements: RGB, exact pixel dimensions, static-only (no animation).
- **High attention to detail** and the discipline to follow exact spec sheets.
- **Good written English** and responsive, reliable communication.

## Bonus points

- Experience with **U.S. political / advocacy / issue advertising**.
- Experience working directly to **Lamar / Clear Channel Outdoor / OUTFRONT** specs.
- Comfort **sourcing and licensing high-resolution stock or photography**.
- Basic **motion / DOOH** skills (a plus, not required).

## Tools you'll need

- Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator + Photoshop required; InDesign a plus)
- Reliable internet and computer capable of handling large print files
- File sharing (Google Drive / Dropbox)

## Reference — the specs you'll build to

| | Static 14?×48? bulletin | Digital bulletin |
|---|---|---|
| Build scale | 1 inch = 1 foot | Pixel-exact |
| File size | ~49? × 15? trim (1? bleed); 48? × 14? live/safety | 1400 × 400 px (varies per board) |
| Resolution | 150 ppi at scaled size | 72 dpi |
| Color mode | CMYK | sRGB / RGB |
| Format | High-res packaged PDF, fonts outlined | High-res JPG |
| Motion | n/a | Static only, no animation |

*(Exact specs vary by board — you must read and follow each vendor's individual spec sheet.)*

## How to apply — please read carefully (we filter applications)

1. **Start your message with the word "BULLETIN"** so we know you read the full post.
2. Send your **portfolio link**, and point us to any **billboard / large-format / OOH / print** work specifically.
3. In 2–3 sentences, explain **the difference between preparing a static 14×48 bulletin file vs. a digital bulletin file** (think color mode, scale/resolution, format).
4. Tell us your **availability** and your **rate** (and whether you prefer hourly, monthly, or per-board).

Applications that skip these steps will not be reviewed.

## Paid test (shortlisted candidates only)

We'll invite finalists to a **small paid test**: using a portrait, copy, and brand colors we provide, deliver —
- **(a)** a print-ready **14? × 48? bulletin** built at 1 inch = 1 foot, **150 ppi, CMYK**, with 1? bleed and a correct 48?×14? safety area, exported as a packaged print **PDF**; and
- **(b)** a **1400 × 400 px, sRGB digital bulletin JPG** of the same design.

We pay for the test and review the files for spec accuracy, type legibility, and clean photo cutouts.
