JOB OVERVIEW

We're looking for an Audience Editor to help ensure our journalism reaches the widest possible audience.

This is a hybrid editorial and audience-growth role combining copy editing, headline optimisation, publishing and community distribution. You'll work closely with reporters and editors to refine content, identify the best audience opportunities, and strategically distribute articles across platforms including Reddit.

The ideal candidate understands both what makes a strong story and how to get readers to engage with it.

Key Responsibilities

Editorial Quality Control

> Copy edit articles for clarity, accuracy, grammar and house style.
> Ensure stories meet editorial and legal standards before publication.
> Fact-check key claims, figures and quotes where required.
> Improve article structure, readability and audience appeal.
> Write and test stronger headlines, decks and SEO metadata.

Publishing & Audience Distribution

> Publish articles across company platforms and CMS systems.
> Identify suitable Reddit communities and distribution opportunities.
> Craft platform-specific post copy that encourages discussion and engagement.
> Monitor Reddit trends and identify emerging story opportunities.
> Build relationships with online communities while adhering to subreddit rules.
> Recommend audience strategies for high-potential stories.

Performance & Growth

> Monitor article performance across traffic sources.
> Identify stories with strong Reddit, Discover, News or social potential.
> Feed audience insights back into editorial planning.
> Help editors understand which content resonates with specific communities.
> Contribute ideas for increasing reader engagement and loyalty.

What We're Looking For

Essential

> Excellent copy editing and proofreading skills.
> Strong understanding of news values and editorial judgement.
> Experience publishing digital content.
> Familiarity with Reddit and online communities.
> Understanding of SEO best practices.
> Ability to write compelling headlines and audience-facing copy.
> Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

Desirable

> Experience working in a digital newsroom.
> Knowledge of US, UK and Canadian news audiences.
> Understanding of Google Discover and audience development strategies.

Success In This Role

After 90 days, you will:

> Consistently publish and optimise high-quality content.
> Successfully identify Reddit opportunities for relevant stories.
> Help increase audience engagement and referral traffic.
> Act as a bridge between editorial quality and audience growth.
> Contribute directly to traffic, reader loyalty and newsroom performance.
