Defy IT is a security-first managed IT services provider supporting serious businesses across Brisbane and South East Queensland.

We are not a call-centre MSP. We are a small, senior technical team that works closely with professional, medical, legal, accounting, hospitality and growing SME clients who rely on us to keep their systems secure, stable and productive.

We are looking for a capable Network and Systems Administrator who can take ownership, solve problems properly, and help us continue building a high-performance technical team.

About the Role

This is a hands-on role covering network administration, server support, Microsoft 365, endpoint management, cloud services, cyber security, backup systems and client infrastructure.

You will work across a mix of project work, escalated support, system maintenance, client environments and proactive improvement. The right person will be comfortable moving between firewall configuration, Microsoft 365 administration, server troubleshooting, endpoint security, backups, documentation and client communication.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

* Administering and supporting client networks, servers, endpoints and cloud systems
* Managing Microsoft 365 environments, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Entra ID and Intune
* Supporting Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP and Hyper-V environments
* Configuring and maintaining firewalls, switches, wireless networks and VPNs
* Supporting UniFi, business-grade networking equipment and security hardware
* Implementing and monitoring backup, disaster recovery and business continuity systems
* Investigating and resolving escalated technical issues
* Assisting with cyber security uplift, endpoint protection, MFA, conditional access and device compliance
* Performing system health checks, maintenance and proactive remediation
* Documenting client environments, processes, credentials and technical changes
* Working directly with clients in a professional and reassuring manner
* Assisting with project delivery, migrations, upgrades and infrastructure improvements

About You

You are someone who can think beyond the ticket in front of you.

You understand that good IT support is not just about fixing what is broken. It is about reducing risk, preventing repeat issues, communicating clearly, and leaving systems better than you found them.

You will be a good fit if you are:

* Technically capable and genuinely interested in networking, systems and security
* Calm under pressure and able to troubleshoot methodically
* Comfortable taking ownership of issues through to resolution
* Professional with clients, including business owners and managers
* Strong with documentation and process
* Practical, reliable and willing to work as part of a small team
* Interested in building long-term capability, not just closing tickets

Required Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will have experience with:

* Microsoft 365 administration
* Windows Server and Active Directory
* Networking fundamentals including VLANs, routing, DNS, DHCP, NAT and VPNs
* Firewall, switch and wireless configuration
* Endpoint support across Windows devices
* Backup and disaster recovery systems
* Remote monitoring and management tools
* Cyber security best practices, including MFA, endpoint protection and access control
* Troubleshooting business-critical systems in professional environments

Highly Regarded

Experience with any of the following will be highly regarded:

* Microsoft Intune and device management
* Microsoft Entra ID and Conditional Access
* Hyper-V virtualisation
* UniFi networking
* VoIP systems
* Medical, legal, accounting or professional services environments
* PSA/RMM platforms
* Security frameworks such as Essential Eight
* Server migration or Microsoft 365 migration projects
