We are seeking an experienced accounting professional to support a growing multi-entity healthcare organization in California.
This is a long-term remote position for someone with prior experience working at a U.S. CPA firm who can oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, tax preparation, payroll compliance, and coordination with external advisors. The ideal candidate will be capable of taking ownership of our accounting function while helping support tax planning, entity structuring, and business growth initiatives.
Responsibilities
• Manage day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping operations
• Perform monthly close and account reconciliations
• Prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, and cash flow analyses
• Manage accounts payable, vendor payments, and payroll reconciliations
• Maintain accurate records across multiple entities and locations
• Prepare tax workpapers and supporting schedules
• Prepare and/or review federal and California tax filings
• Assist with payroll tax compliance, including California EDD reporting and reconciliations
• Coordinate directly with business owners, external CPAs, payroll providers, and tax advisors
• Support tax planning, entity structuring, and business expansion initiatives
• Assist with accounting and tax matters related to healthcare practices, management companies, real estate entities, and related-party transactions
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting, and operational efficiency
Required Qualifications
• Degree in Accounting or Finance
• Prior experience working for a U.S. CPA firm
• Minimum 5 years of experience supporting U.S.-based clients
• Strong understanding of U.S. accounting principles and financial reporting
• Experience preparing tax returns and supporting tax compliance
• Experience with California business and payroll tax compliance
• Experience with QuickBooks Online
• Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills
• Excellent written and verbal English communication
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects
Highly Preferred
• CPA, EA, or equivalent professional credential
• Experience with healthcare organizations, medical groups, or professional service businesses
• Experience with multi-entity organizations and intercompany accounting
• Experience with management companies (MSOs), professional corporations, partnerships, and real estate entities
• Experience with tax planning, entity structure optimization, and owner compensation planning
• Experience using Lacerte, UltraTax, ProConnect, Drake, CCH, or similar tax software
