I'm looking for a long-term video editor who can turn a provided script + voiceover into clean, engaging, motion-driven explainer videos related to the following topic: the history of dating, romance, courtship, and scandal across different eras.
The style is image- and motion-led - period images, archival art, and relevant footage, brought to life with smooth animation, movement, and light hand-drawn touches. Think clean and visual, with energy and pacing. I'd love to see your portfolio, what you've done, and what style you'd suggest.
A video editor should be able to do the following:
Speak fluent English
Communicate effectively
Turnaround time of 3 days or less
Be creative and bring light humour/personality to the visuals
MUST be able to edit a MINIMUM of 2 videos a week. Could be 1 if it's really high-quality work, but I'd expect 2.
If you have read the middle of this job description, please type your favourite animal at the beginning or end of your proposal.
As you can tell, I'm looking for a long-term editor and do have high expectations - but keep in mind, this will be consistent ongoing work if you can deliver, and it will be compensated well. We're building a team and need reliable editors to join us. This can grow into a full-time role, and more work will come if we're a good match working together.
Again, we provide the script and voiceover. We simply need the visuals built around it - put together nicely and creatively in a motion-driven explainer style with strong movement and light animated touches (title screens, transitions, simple draw-on and reveal effects).
Here's the kind of style we're drawn to, for reference:
These aren't set in stone - just examples. Honestly, I feel they don't have enough movement, so I'd love to know your style, see your portfolio, and hear what you'd bring to make it more dynamic.
TAKE NOTE of the following guidelines:
THE OPENING , start with an engaging hook visual that's EXTREMELY relevant to the title (a strong period image or animated reveal that sets up the question)
Show subheadings, era markers, and key numbers with appeal and emphasis
Editor will source/create 3 types of visuals: period-appropriate images (paintings, engravings, archival art), relevant clips/footage, and simple animated elements
No single static visual should stay on screen longer than 5–6 seconds keep it moving
A fresh visual beat (new image, clip, or animation) should land consistently to match the pace of the narration
Background music must be copyright-free and fit a warm, storytelling tone
Keep the look consistent with our brand: warm parchment backgrounds, clean style, gold/oxblood/plum accents
This is the GUIDELINE we follow across all our videos. I will provide a colours and typography guide to follow.
Potential contractors will be interviewed by virtual meeting.
Additional Questions:
What is your rate per minute?
How many videos can you handle per week?
To the best of your understanding, can you rephrase what kind of video I am seeking?
You will be instantly hired if you have created motion-graphic or faceless YouTube videos before. Have you? (Please link examples.)
