ABOUT THE ROLE
We're a growing home health agency in Ohio looking for an exceptional HR Director to own our people function end-to-end — recruiting, onboarding, compliance, retention, employee relations, and the systems that hold it all together. Caregiver turnover is the single biggest challenge in our industry. If you've moved that number at a previous home health, home care, hospice, or skilled nursing employer, you're who we want to talk to.
This is a remote, full-time, senior seat. You'll be the most senior HR voice in the company, working directly with the CEO and operations leadership. The work is high-trust, high-judgment, and high-impact. We're hiring one person — we want it to be the right person.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN:
- Full-cycle recruiting for clinical (RN, LPN, PT/OT/ST, HHA, caregiver) and administrative roles — including agency partnerships, job board strategy, and proactive sourcing
- Onboarding and credentialing — license verification, OIG/SAM exclusion checks, background and drug screens, I-9, BLS, TB, and home-health-specific training records
- Multi-state HR compliance — federal DOL (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, companionship exemption rules), state nursing board and home health regulations, EEO/OFCCP, workers' comp, OSHA, and applicable state-level paid sick / paid family leave laws
- HIPAA training program ownership — annual training, attestation tracking, sanction policy, audit-ready documentation
- Policy and employee handbook authorship — readable, defensible, and updated when the law moves
- HRIS, ATS, and payroll system administration (Paychex, ADP, Paylocity, BambooHR, Workable, Greenhouse, or comparable)
- Employee relations and investigations — handled with discretion, documentation, and clean judgment
- Performance management framework — coaching managers, running review cycles, structuring PIPs that hold up
- Benefits administration — open enrollment, broker management, COBRA, retirement plan coordination
- Workers' comp claim management — return-to-work coordination, OSHA 300 logs, i
- Turnover analytics — own the dashboard, present root causes monthly, drive the retention strategy
- Stay-interview and exit-interview programs that produce real insight, not paperwork
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
- Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 2 years in a senior or director-level seat
- Direct home health, home care, hospice, post-acute, or skilled nursing HR experience is REQUIRED — not a "plus." This industry has rules that take years to learn.
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification (or active, documented progress toward one)
- Demonstrated track record of reducing caregiver or clinical-staff turnover at a previous employer — be ready to talk specific numbers
- Working knowledge of CMS Conditions of Participation for home health, OASIS workflows, and Medicare/Medicaid compliance touchpoints that intersect with HR
- Hands-on experience with HRIS / ATS / payroll platforms (Paychex, ADP, Paylocity, BambooHR, Workable, Greenhouse, or similar)
- Bulletproof written English — you'll author policies, handbooks, investigation memos, and disciplinary documentation that have to stand up to legal scrutiny
- Calm, confidential, and decisive in employee relations situations
- Comfortable being the senior HR voice in the company and pushing back on the CEO when the law or the policy requires it
- Comfortable signing an NDA and completing HIPAA training before day one
WORK ENVIRONMENT (NON-NEGOTIABLE):
- Reliable high-speed internet (minimum 25 Mbps down / 10 Mbps up)
- Quiet, professional workspace
- USB headset and a working webcam
- A primary device on supported OS (Windows 11 or macOS)
SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION:
- Full-time, 40 hours/week
- Eastern Time business hours, primary overlap 9 AM – 5 PM ET
- $8–10 USD/hour, depending on experience and certifications
- 10 paid days off per year
- Annual performance review with a defined raise framework
DO NOT APPLY IF:
- You don't have direct home health, home care, hospice, post-acute, or skilled nursing HR experience
- You're currently juggling another full-time role
- You're more comfortable executing tactics than owning strategy — this is a director seat, not a coordinator role
- You're not comfortable with confidential information, NDAs, or HIPAA-style training
HOW TO APPLY:
Send the following:
1. Your résumé.
2. A brief written description (3–6 sentences) telling us why you'd be a great fit for this specific role.
3. A short video (1–2 minutes) telling us why you're the best person for this and what sets you apart from the others.
4. A short story (5–8 sentences) about a specific turnover or retention problem you solved at a previous employer — what the metric was before, what you changed, what the metric was after, and how long it took. This is the instinct we're hiring for.
You MUST submit a video. Your application subject line MUST include the exact phrase: "Your problems are over".
We use a paid trial. Top applicants will be invited to a paid trial task (10–15 hours, compensated) that mirrors the real work — a sample handbook policy authorship exercise and a turnover-analytics dashboard build using anonymized data we provide. We make hires only after the trial.
