JOB OVERVIEW

Position Summary

We are looking for a detail-oriented Tax Preparer/Staff Accountant to join our team. This position is responsible for preparing federal and state income tax returns for individuals and a variety of business entities, along with bookkeeping services as needed to support the tax compliance process.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare federal and state income tax returns for individuals (Form 1040), partnerships (Form 1065), S-corporations (Form 1120-S), C-corporations (Form 1120), and other entity types as assigned

Perform bookkeeping and accounting services — including transaction coding, bank reconciliations, and financial statement preparation — to the extent necessary to complete tax returns

Organize and analyze client-provided source documents, identifying missing or inconsistent information and following up as needed

Prepare workpapers that clearly support return positions and tie to source documents

Assist with tax research on technical issues under the direction of senior staff

Communicate professionally with clients to gather information and respond to routine questions

Meet established deadlines throughout the filing season, including extension periods

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
Prior experience preparing tax returns in a CPA firm or tax preparation environment a plus
Proficiency with tax preparation software (UltraTax experience a plus) and Microsoft Excel
Familiarity with QuickBooks or similar bookkeeping platforms preferred
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple engagements simultaneously
Effective written and verbal communication skills
