Job Title: Experienced Grant Writer & AI Research Specialist (Virtual Assistant)
About Us
A New Day Foundation (ANDF) is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by Dr. Dawnn Lewis, an award-winning actress, musician, producer, and philanthropist. Our mission is to empower underserved youth through mentorship, education, arts, and technology programs, while also providing capacity-building support to grassroots nonprofits. With programs spanning across Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Washington D.C., and Indianapolis, we are committed to equipping the next generation for the future—particularly in the face of the AI-driven economy.
The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced, detail-oriented, and proactive Grant Writer (Virtual Assistant) to join our team. Dr. Lewis values precision, excellence, and a strong work ethic. The ideal candidate is a "go-getter" who not only possesses a proven track record in securing grants (ranging from $10K to $10M) but is also highly proficient in leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for deep research, prospect identification, and proposal drafting.
You will play a critical role in expanding our funding base across local, state, corporate, and federal opportunities, with a special focus on funding for youth workforce development, STEM, and AI literacy programs.
Key Responsibilities
•
AI-Powered Research: Utilize advanced AI tools and traditional databases (e.g., GrantWatch, Instrumentl, Foundation Directory) to identify, vet, and rank grant opportunities aligned with ANDF’s strategic goals.
•
Proposal Development: Draft, edit, and submit compelling, highly tailored grant proposals, letters of inquiry (LOIs), and concept papers. Ensure all narratives align with Dr. Lewis’s vision and the foundation's strategic focus on AI equity and youth empowerment.
•
Strategic Planning: Maintain and manage a comprehensive grant calendar (like the one we recently developed), prioritizing deadlines for easy, moderate, and highly competitive grants.
•
Data Synthesis: Translate complex data (e.g., workforce displacement statistics, community impact metrics) into clear, persuasive narratives that substantiate the need for year-round funding.
•
Detail-Oriented Execution: Meticulously review all guidelines and requirements to ensure 100% compliance before submission. Attention to detail is non-negotiable.
Qualifications
•
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience in grant writing for US-based nonprofits, with a portfolio of successful awards (please provide examples or a track record).
•
AI Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity) to accelerate research, outline strategies, and refine writing, while maintaining a human, authentic voice.
•
Exceptional Writing Skills: Impeccable English grammar, spelling, and persuasive writing abilities. Ability to adopt the professional, academic, and passionate tone of our founder.
•
Self-Starter: A proactive go-getter who doesn't wait for instructions but actively seeks out new funding avenues and brings strategic ideas to the table.
•
Education: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degrees or specific certifications in grant writing/nonprofit management are a strong plus.

Note: Candidates selected for an interview will be asked to provide 2-3 writing samples of successful grant proposals or LOIs they have authored.
