JOB OVERVIEW

We are a growing tourism business based in the Cook Islands, and we are looking for a reliable and experienced remote Accountant / Bookkeeper to manage our financial operations and help improve financial planning and reporting across the business.

This role is ideal for someone who is highly organised, detail-oriented, experienced with Xero, and confident handling bookkeeping, payroll, reporting, and financial forecasting independently.

We are looking for someone long-term who can become a key part of the business and help improve financial systems, visibility, and decision-making.

YOUR ROLE WILL INCLUDE:

BOOKKEEPING & ACCOUNTING

* Daily and weekly bookkeeping using Xero
* Bank reconciliations
* Accounts payable and receivable
* Managing invoices and supplier payments
* Monitoring cash flow and expenses
* Keeping financial records accurate and up to date
* Preparing monthly financial reports

PAYROLL

* Processing payroll accurately and on time
* Managing staff wages, leave, and payroll records
* Ensuring payroll compliance and organisation
* Assisting with contractor and staff payment tracking

FINANCIAL PLANNING & REPORTING

* Creating financial forecasts and budgeting reports
* Assisting with cash flow planning
* Monitoring profitability and business performance
* Identifying areas to improve efficiency or reduce costs
* Preparing management reports and financial summaries
* Providing financial insights and recommendations

SYSTEMS & PROCESS IMPROVEMENT

* Improving bookkeeping and reporting systems
* Helping create clear financial processes and workflows
* Maintaining organised records and documentation
* Supporting better visibility across business finances

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

* Strong experience using Xero (required)
* Proven bookkeeping and accounting experience
* Payroll processing experience
* Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
* Strong understanding of financial reporting
* High attention to detail and accuracy
* Excellent organisational and time management skills
* Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
* Strong communication skills

* Experience working with tourism, hospitality, or service-based businesses
* Experience managing multi-role financial operations remotely
* Experience improving systems and workflows
* Understanding of cash flow management in seasonal businesses
