Metadata Specialist (Publishing)

Job Overview
We are looking for a Metadata Specialist to manage and maintain accurate, standards-compliant metadata for publishing products, including ebooks, audiobooks, and other digital and print formats. This role requires proficiency in ONIX 3.0, strong attention to detail, and an understanding of accessibility standards in digital publishing.
This position is well-suited for candidates with prior publishing or metadata experience who are comfortable working with structured data and quality-driven workflows.
Responsibilities
• Create, update, and maintain metadata records for ebooks, audiobooks, and other publishing products
• Build and manage ONIX 3.0 metadata feeds for distribution partners
• Ensure metadata accuracy, consistency, and compliance across platforms
• Apply and maintain accessibility-related metadata according to industry standards
• Coordinate metadata updates for new releases, revisions, and backlist titles
• Identify and resolve metadata errors or inconsistencies
• Collaborate with editorial, production, marketing, and distribution teams
• Maintain clear documentation and organized metadata workflows
Requirements
• Proficiency in ONIX 3.0 (ebooks and audiobooks required)
• Experience working with publishing metadata
• Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
• Understanding of digital publishing accessibility standards
• Ability to manage multiple titles and deadlines
• Strong written communication and organizational skills
Preferred (Not Required)
• Prior experience in a publishing or metadata-focused role
• Experience with FileMaker Pro or similar database software
• Familiarity with ebook, audiobook, and print distribution platforms
• General technical proficiency and ability to learn new systems
