Soccer Match Data Analyst — Full-Time, Sports Knowledge a Plus

ABOUT THE ROLE

We're hiring one detail-oriented analyst to join Soccer Film Room — a soccer match analysis service led by Coach Bruno Antunes, a UEFA A licensed coach with over 30 years in professional European football.

Your job: watch full soccer matches, log every player action into our master Excel spreadsheet using Bruno's proprietary methodology, and build the data foundation that becomes our players' development reports.

This is not generic VA work. You'll be trained directly by Bruno over 2-3 weeks to understand how a top-level European coach reads a match — and then you'll do that work, repeatedly, with precision.

If you love soccer, this is one of the best jobs you'll ever find. If you don't love soccer but you're obsessive about detail and accuracy, you can still thrive here.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Watch full soccer matches (90 minutes, twice through, plus rewinds)
- Log every meaningful player action into a structured Excel spreadsheet — typically ---------- data points per match
- Tag actions across four domains: Physical, Technical, Tactical, Strategical
- Score each action on Efficiency, Efficacy, and Result
- Identify and timestamp key match ---------- nts for later coach review
- Hand off the completed spreadsheet to Bruno for his expert layer of analysis

In a typical week you'll log 15-20 matches once fully trained. After the training period, each match should take around 2 hours of focused work.

WHO YOU ARE

REQUIRED:
- Excellent written English (B2 or higher — you'll be reading detailed methodology docs and asking precise questions)
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills — formulas, conditional formatting, structured data entry, pivot tables
- Obsessively detail-oriented — you notice when a number is off by one, when a column header changes, when something doesn't add up
- Reliable internet connection capable of streaming 1080p video without interruption
- Available full-time, exclusively (no other clients during work hours)
- Comfortable working independently with weekly check-ins, not constant supervision

STRONGLY PREFERRED (these candidates go to the top of the pile):
- You play, watch, or follow soccer/football regularly
- You can name the position of every player on the pitch and explain what each one does
- You've watched a full match in the last 30 days
- You can tell the difference between a midfielder dropping deep to receive vs. drifting wide to create space

NICE TO HAVE:
- Background in sports, sports science, kinesiology, or coaching
- Previous experience as a video analyst, scout, or any role involving structured observation
- Familiarity with platforms like Veo, Hudl, Trace, GameChanger, or Wyscout

WHY THIS ROLE IS DIFFERENT

Most VA jobs are interchangeable — answer emails, manage a calendar, post on social media. Anyone can do them.

This job has a real skill ceiling. You'll learn how a UEFA A coach reads a match, you'll develop an eye for player development, and after a year you'll know more about soccer analysis than 99% of people watching the sport. The ceiling is high. The work is interesting. The work is also repetitive — that's the trade.

Q2: Pick any soccer position (Center Back, Outside Back, Defensive Midfielder,
Central Midfielder, Attacking Midfielder, Winger, or Striker) and describe what that
player's main job is during the match — both with the ball and without it.
Answer in 4-6 sentences.

Q3: You finish entering data for a match. Before submitting, you do one final review.
You notice that the same player was logged as making a "Pass" at minute 67 AND a
"Tackle Won" at minute 67. What do you do? Walk through your steps in 3-5 sentences.

Q4: When you're entering data and notice the formatting in one row is different from the others, what do you do? Describe in 2-3 sentences.

Q5: This role requires you to watch 60 to 90-minute matches twice each (so ~2-3 hours of focused viewing per match before any data entry). Are you able to maintain focus across that duration? Describe how you'd structure your day to make this sustainable.

6. Attach a 1-2 minute video of yourself (recorded on your phone is fine) introducing yourself and answering this single question: "Tell me about a time you spotted a small detail others missed."
