JOB OVERVIEW

READ THIS FIRST — to filter yourself in or out:

The biggest mistake new editors make on talking-head + screen-recording content is __________.

If you can't answer that in 2-3 sentences from your own editing experience (NOT from ChatGPT, NOT from a template), this role isn't for you. I'll skip applications that don't lead with that answer.

If your application starts with "I feel that my skills and knowledge make me the ideal candidate" — I will skip it. I'm looking for one specific editor, not a stock cover letter.

---

We're a New Zealand AI-powered marketing agency running a YouTube channel about how we run real marketing clients from Claude Code. We need a long-form video editor to turn 12-18 minute talking-head + screen-recording footage into clean, retention-led YouTube videos every week.

This is NOT a short-form-only role. We have a separate editor for shorts. This role is the long-form anchor.

WHAT YOU'LL EDIT:
- 1x 12-18 minute long-form YouTube video per week (steady-state), growing to 1-2/week as we scale
- Source: 30-45 min raw talking-head + 5-10 min ScreenStudio screen recordings per video
- Filming Thursdays NZ time, you turn around by the following Tuesday (5-day window)
- First filming block: Thursday ---------- . First edit due Tuesday ---------- .
- Reference channels: Liam Ottley, Jack Roberts, Tiny Tapes — clean fast cuts, screen overlays, on-screen text labels for technical terms

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE GOOD AT:
- Cutting jump-cuts every 4-8 seconds — operator energy, never slow but never frantic
- B-roll layering — overlaying screen recordings at the right ---------- nts without burying the face
- On-screen text labels — when I say "/handoff" or "MEMORY.md" the text appears clean on screen (technical-term accuracy is required)
- Captions auto-gen in Premiere or DaVinci, reviewed for technical-term accuracy
- Color grade — slightly warm skin, dark cinematic background, never over-saturated
- Anti-hype — NO upbeat agency intro music. NO sound-effect explosions on text reveals. Subtle ambient music under B-roll only.

WHAT I PROVIDE:
- Full script for every video (first 4 episodes already written)
- Edit notes per episode (what to cut, where B-roll goes)
- Reference timeline from a previous video once we're 2-3 episodes in
- Style guide locked in week 1 (fonts, colors, lower-thirds)

TOOLS YOU MUST KNOW:
- DaVinci Resolve OR Premiere Pro (your pick)
- Reliable file handover workflow ( ---------- , Dropbox, or Google Drive — your suggestion)

TOOLS THAT WOULD HELP (BONUS):
- ScreenStudio (Mac — my source material comes from this)
- Capcut for fast shorts cuts (we may extend this role into shorts later)

HOURS + COMMITMENT:
- Per video: 4-6 hours edit time
- Weekly: 1 long-form to start, growing to 1-2/week
- 4-week paid trial first, then per-video pricing locks in

PAY:
- Test edit: 5-minute extract from real footage, $15 USD paid regardless of outcome
- Trial (first 4 weeks): $10-18 USD per video, depending on portfolio + test edit quality
- Post-trial: $25-35 USD per long-form video, output-based from week 5 onward
- Long-term scope (3+ months in): potential to grow into an editing lead role with our existing shorts editor reporting to you. $700-1,000 USD/month full-time.

HOW TO APPLY:

Send me three things, in this order:

1. Your 2-3 sentence answer to: "What's the biggest mistake new editors make on talking-head + screen-recording content?" (from your own editing experience, not ChatGPT)

2. 2-3 long-form YouTube editing samples you've personally edited. Send DIRECT video links (Vimeo, YouTube, or specific Drive file URLs — NOT Drive folders, NOT showreels). Add timestamps showing your cuts.

3. Your per-video rate + how many videos per week you can commit to.

I'll reply within 48 hours and pay $15 USD for a 5-minute test edit if your samples fit.

WHAT I WILL NOT REPLY TO:
- Agency-style emails ("we are a team of 50 talented editors")
- Drive folder portfolios (send direct video links only)
- Editors who only do gaming / vlog / lifestyle content
- Anyone whose answer to question 1 reads like ChatGPT
- Anyone who applies without watching 1 minute of the reference channels first
