We are launching a new long-form true crime YouTube channel focused on real footage storytelling — bodycam, interrogation, courtroom, 911 audio. Think JCS - Criminal Psychology meets Crime Explorer. We are looking for a full-time Producer/Editor to be our creative partner from day one.
This is not a traditional editor role. You will research cases, draft narrative outlines, write first-draft scripts, and edit the final video. You are responsible for storytelling, not just cuts.
ABOUT THE CHANNEL:
- Format: Long-form documentary-style episodes built around real, public footage
- Length: Variable — story dictates length (some 15 min, some 45+ min)
- Tone: Analytical, evidence-driven, respectful. Quality over quantity.
- Target output: 2 videos per week
WHAT YOU WILL DO EACH WEEK:
- Research the assigned case using public sources (court records, news archives, prior coverage)
- Draft a narrative outline and first-draft narration script
- Cut and assemble the video using real footage as the visual backbone
- Burn subtitles, mix audio, deliver thumbnail concepts
- Take editorial notes fro
SCHEDULE AND PAY:
- Full-time: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts
- Schedule must overlap with US Central time at least 4 hours per day
- Starting pay: $1,500-1,800/month USD depending on experience, paid via Wise
- 13th-month bonus included
- 2 weeks paid time off per year
- Performance reviews quarterly with raise potential tied to channel growth
HOW THE WORK FLOWS:
- Each Monday (your time), we sync briefly via
- You receive: case brief, raw footage in a shared folder, target deliverable
- Daily brief check-ins via
- One Google Meet video call per week to review work and align on direction
- Friday wrap with a quick written review of what shipped
You will work standard 8-hour shifts. Pay is fixed. Target output is 2 videos per week — we will work together to refine the workflow until that pace is sustainable.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Strong command of written and spoken English. You will write scripts and join weekly video calls. Both must be confident and clear.
- High-speed home internet: 50+ Mbps download and 10+ Mbps upload. Stable connection. We will be transferring large video files daily.
- Willingness to interview over Google Meet during the screening process
- Willingness to attend a weekly Google Meet check-in once hired
- Proven track record editing long-form YouTube content for an established channel (please link to 2-3 examples in your application)
- Comfortable with footage-driven, narration-light formats (not stock-photo-heavy)
- Skilled with Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut Pro
- Subtitle work, audio mixing, basic thumbnail design
- Reliable power (or backup plan)
STRONGLY PREFERRED:
- Familiarity with the true crime genre
- Background or interest in journalism, documentary, or narrative storytelling
- Experience working with US-based clients across time zones
NOT REQUIRED:
- Voice acting or narration (we are hiring a separate voice actor)
- On-camera presence (this is a faceless channel)
SCREENING PROCESS:
1. Submit your application with: (a) links to 2-3 long-form videos you have edited, (b) brief description of your role on each, (c) your current availability, (d) your home internet speed (run a speedtest at
2. Top candidates will receive a screening test: edit a 5-minute opening segment from raw footage we provide, with a 3-paragraph rationale explaining your editorial choices. 3-day turnaround.
3. Finalists will be invited to a 30-minute Google Meet interview
4. Top finisher receives a one-week paid trial at full rate
5. After successful trial, full-time engagement begins
WHY THIS ROLE IS DIFFERENT:
- You are not a piecework editor. You are a creative partner with strategic input.
- Long-term stable employment with quarterly raises tied to performance, not gig work
- We have the budget and infrastructure to do this properly. We are not pinching pennies and asking for unrealistic output.
TO APPLY:
Send your application with portfolio links, your speedtest result, and answer this short question in your response:
"Tell me about a video you edited where the story didn't work, and what you would change about it now."
We are filtering for storytellers, not technicians. Generic applications without portfolio links and speedtest results will not be reviewed. Looking forward to working with the right person.
