I'm launching a YouTube channel publishing long-form documentaries on subjects in the music, internet culture and film world — deep dives, video essays, and historical features in the spirit of Volksgeist, Patrick (CC), and Fern.
I write the scripts and record the voiceover. I'm looking for an editor who can take it from there and deliver finished documentaries from rough script + VO to publish-ready cut.
What you'll do
• Cut long-form video essays / documentaries (typically 10–30 min)
• Source archival footage, B-roll, photos, and film clips that fit each script
• Build motion graphics, title cards, lower thirds, and animated visualizations in After Effects
• Pace visuals tightly to the narration — cuts, on-screen text, music hits
• Color and audio polish
You're a fit if you have
• A reel or 2–3 examples of documentary / video-essay editing
• Strong After Effects motion graphics (non-negotiable)
• Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve fluency
• A real eye for typography, pacing, and cinematic feel
• Skill at digging up archival footage and photos
• Familiarity with the reference channels above (or channels in that lane)
Bonus
• Interest in music history, film history, or pop culture
• Sound design / mixing chops
• Long-form YouTube experience (not just commercial or short-form)
This is an ongoing relationship rather than one-off gigs — a regular release cadence with one editor I trust. Open to per-video flat rates or hourly.
When you apply, please send a reel and a quick note on which of the reference channels resonates most with you and why.
