About us - Alexander James Media. We produce cinematic video content for mining, civil, and industrial contractors in Western Australia — capability videos, brand stories, recruitment content, podcast edits, and social cuts. Our aesthetic is cinematic, industrial, people-forward. Warm tones, high contrast, real sites, real crews. Not corporate. Not generic. Not stock.
Watch our work before applying:
What you'll edit:
Short-form social media cuts (30–90 sec)
Podcast episodes (full edits + cut-downs)
Capability videos (2–3 min cinematic)
Marketing videos and website content
Varied volume — some weeks heavy, some lighter. You'll manage your schedule against our weekly brief.
You must have:
Premiere Pro — non-negotiable, must be your primary tool
3+ years professional video editing
Strong audio editing skills (syncing dialogue, mixing music, cleaning on-site audio with machinery/wind noise)
Basic colour grading knowledge (you don't need to master-grade, but you should understand Lumetri, LUTs, and warm/cinematic looks)
Fast, clear written English
Portfolio/reel with cinematic or documentary-style work (not corporate Zoom recordings, not wedding highlight reels, not YouTube talking-head templates)
Bonus points for:
AI plugin/add-on experience (Adobe Firefly, Runway, ElevenLabs audio cleanup, Topaz Video AI, etc.)
After Effects for titles and lower-thirds
Experience with cinematic LUTs and colour grading
Industrial, mining, construction, or documentary editing background
How you'll work with us:
Daily 10-min Slack check-in (same time zone as Perth — no overlap issues)
Weekly 30-min review call (Zoom, Friday)
Briefs delivered via Loom with visual references
Cuts reviewed via
24-hour response SLA on Slack during working hours — silence is the #1 reason we'd let you go
How to apply — read carefully
Email
Include:
A 60–90 second Loom or video showing your face and screen. Explain: (a) your editing workflow in Premiere, (b) one cinematic or documentary project you're proud of — what was challenging, (c) why this role specifically. No written cover letter. Video only.
Link to your reel (Vimeo, YouTube, or portfolio site)
One sample project file — send one .prproj or a screenshot of your timeline on a recent project (shows me how you organise)
One-sentence answer: "The capital of Western Australia is _____"
Applicants who skip the video, the reel, or the Perth answer will be ignored.
Trial: Paid 3-day test edit (USD $75) before full offer. I'll send you raw footage and a reference video. You cut a 30–60 second piece in our style.
