The Opportunity
We're expanding our operations and seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor/Estimator to join our team. This is a key role that will relieve management of estimating and quantity take-off responsibilities, allowing us to scale operations and improve project delivery. You will own all aspects of quantity surveying, material takeoffs, cost estimation, and technical review of construction drawings.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct detailed quantity take-offs and material estimates from architectural and technical drawings
• Prepare comprehensive project estimates including labour, materials, and overhead
• Review construction drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with Ontario Building Code standards
• Analyze project scope and identify potential issues or cost drivers early in the estimation process
• Support multi-discipline projects including structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and finish work
• Maintain accurate records of estimates, revisions, and project documentation
• Collaborate with project managers, site supervisors, and subcontractors to refine estimates and track actuals
• Support bid development and proposal preparation for new projects
Required Qualifications
• Minimum 5 years of professional estimating and quantity surveying experience in North America
• Strong knowledge of Ontario Building Code (OBC) and relevant construction standards
• Multi-discipline expertise across residential construction including structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and finish trades
• Proficiency with digital takeoff and estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or equivalent)
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in quantifying and costing projects
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Professional communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in luxury or high-end residential renovation and construction
• Knowledge of condo-specific renovation challenges and requirements
• Certification or formal training in quantity surveying or construction estimating
• Experience with construction management software (Planswift, Square takeoff, Clear Estimates & Buildertrend.)
