Remote Content, Video & Marketing Specialist — Part-Time (50%)
Your Friend In Reykjavik |
Who we are
Your Friend In Reykjavik (YFIR) is an award-winning tour operator and destination management company based in Iceland. We run daily walking tours, food tours, folklore and ghost tours, private driving tours, and custom multiday itineraries. We've built over 9,000 five-star reviews across Google, TripAdvisor, GYG, Viator, and Airbnb — not through marketing budgets, but through guides who genuinely love what they do.
We're a small, remote-friendly team spread across multiple countries. We work asynchronously, communicate directly, and don't micromanage.
We're members of Visit Iceland and Visit Reykjavik (Markasstofan hofudborgarsvaedisins), and this hire will work in context and cooperation with both organisations — tapping into their campaigns, content, and marketing calendars as part of a broader Iceland tourism ecosystem.
We're looking for someone to own our content, SEO, and marketing output. This is a role you'll shape.
What you'll do
Content is the engine. Everything else flows from it.

Handle audio cleanup, structure, chapter markers, and show notes
Publish and distribute via our podcast hosting platform
Repurpose episodes into social clips, TikToks, and newsletter content
Reporting
Monthly performance reporting via Reportz covering SEO, social, newsletter, and video metrics

Flag what's working, what isn't, and what to do about it
The multiplier in practice: one recorded conversation becomes a podcast episode, TikTok clips, Instagram Reels, a newsletter feature, and an SEO-optimised blog post. That's the leverage this role creates.

What we're looking for
You are genuinely interested in Iceland.
Not 'Iceland seems nice' interested. Actually curious — about the history, the folklore, the landscapes, the culture, the food, the people. You don't need to have been here. But you need to care enough that writing about Iceland feels like a privilege, not a task. If Iceland is just a backdrop, this isn't the right fit.
Writing is the foundation.
You write clearly, warmly, and with personality. You can adapt tone — conversational for travel audiences, professional for B2B partners. You don't write like a chatbot and you don't write like a press release.
SEO is a genuine skill, not a checkbox.
You understand how search works — keyword intent, on-page structure, what makes content rank versus what makes it just exist. You write for humans first and search engines second, and you know how to do both simultaneously. Bonus if you understand GEO — how AI models like ChatGPT and Claude surface travel content.
AI fluency is non-negotiable.
We want someone who has genuinely built AI into their daily workflow — using it to research faster, draft quicker, find keyword opportunities, repurpose content smarter — while producing output that still sounds like a person wrote it. Show us how you work, not just that you use it.
Video editing is real, not decorative.
You know CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, Premiere, or equivalent. You understand what makes a TikTok stop a scroll in the first two seconds. Short-form travel content experience is a strong plus.
TikTok and Instagram are growth priorities.
Our main following lives on
You thrive wearing multiple hats.
On Monday you might be deep in keyword research. On Tuesday you're editing for social media. On Wednesday you're writing a newsletter. The right person finds that energising, not overwhelming.
You track your time without being asked.
We use Toggl to log hours per task area. This isn't about surveillance — it's about understanding where time goes so we can scope the role fairly and adjust over time if needed.
Podcast editing is a bonus, not a barrier.
If you've edited audio before — removed filler, cleaned levels, structured a conversation — great. If you're willing to learn, tell us.
Beyond the above:
Social media management across Instagram,
Comfortable with WordPress — publishing, formatting, images
Familiar with MailerLite or a comparable
Self-managed — you deliver without daily check-ins
English fluency required. Additional languages are a bonus
Travel, hospitality, or tourism experience is strongly preferred
The role
Type: Freelance / contractor, ongoing retainer
Hours: Approx. 80 hours/month (50% equivalent), tracked via Toggl
Location: Fully remote — anywhere with good English and reliable internet
Timezone: Flexible, with occasional overlap with GMT
Reporting to: Valur, CEO
How to apply
Skip the generic cover letter. Include these two things instead:
1. A writing sample.
Either something you've already written about travel, or a
2. A short note on your AI workflow.
