About the role
This is not a passive or reporting-only role. You will work directly with founders and executive teams, turning financial data into decisions and owning cash clarity, forecasting, and strategic financial direction.
This role sits at the intersection of strategy and execution. You will guide financial planning, performance management, and capital strategy while working closely with FinOps delivery teams who handle day-to-day processing.
What you will do
Financial leadership
• Act as the primary financial advisor to founders and exec teams
• Translate financial performance into clear, actionable decisions
• Guide pricing, margin, hiring, and investment choices
Cash & runway ownership
• Own cashflow visibility and forecasting
• Define runway, burn, and liquidity risks
• Implement cash controls and prioritisation frameworks
FP&A and performance
• Build and maintain driver-based financial models
• Lead budgeting and forecasting cycles
• Define KPIs, dashboards, and performance frameworks
• Interpret variances and recommend corrective action
Month-end and financial integrity
• Review month-end outputs from FinOps teams
• Ensure reporting accuracy and commercial relevance
• Validate revenue recognition, cost allocation, and margins
Strategic finance
• Support fundraising, investor updates, and board packs
• Lead scenario modelling and growth planning
• Assess new initiatives, partnerships, and expansion plans
Finance maturity and systems
• Identify gaps in controls, tooling, and reporting
• Guide finance structure and automation direction
• Raise the overall financial discipline of the business
What success looks like
• Founders rely on you for decisions, not just reports
• Cash surprises disappear
• Forecasts become decision tools
• Financial conversations shift from historic to forward-looking
Who we are looking for
Experience
• Senior finance leadership in startups or scale-ups
• Strong FP&A and cashflow expertise
• Exposure to fundraising and investor reporting
• Comfortable working across multiple clients or entities
Skills
• Commercial mindset over pure accounting
• Ability to simplify complex financial realities
• Confident working hands-on in ambiguous environments
• Clear communicator with non-finance stakeholders
Mindset
• Operator first, advisor second
• Bias toward action and accountability
• Comfortable being embedded and owning outcomes
What this role is not
• Not a bookkeeping or transaction-processing role
• Not responsible for daily AP/AR or payroll
• Not a purely advisory or board-only position
You elevate, direct, and interpret financial reality.
