Hours: 10 hours per week to start (during AEST business hours, set by agreement), with potential to increase
About Us
We're a growing Australian estimating and quantity surveying consultancy working with builders, contractors, and trades across residential and commercial construction. Our team is small, remote-first, and holds its work to a high standard. You'll work directly with the founder — a qualified quantity surveyor — and alongside one other estimator.
This is a genuine part-time role with a mix of estimating and administration work. We need someone who can switch between preparing a cost estimate in the morning and managing
You'll review each other's work before it goes to clients, so attention to detail and the confidence to flag errors are essential.
We use AI tools within the business for administrative tasks — drafting
What You'll Be Doing:
Estimating & Technical
- Quantity takeoffs from construction documentation including architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, and electrical drawings
- Preparing cost estimates, bills of quantities, and pricing documents in Excel
- Peer-reviewing estimates produced by other tea
- Requesting and collating subcontractor and supplier pricing via
- Maintaining organised project files and documentation
Administration & Communication
- Managing and responding to
- Updating project records and task trackers
- Preparing documents, proposals, and general correspondence
- Following up with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Logging time accurately against projects and maintaining task records
- General research and ad hoc tasks as needed
The balance between estimating and admin work will shift depending on workload and business needs.
Software We Use
You'll work across most of the following tools over time. We don't expect experience in all of them, but you need to be adaptable and comfortable learning new software quickly.
- Estimating & takeoff: Cubit, Dindo, Styck, CostX
- Tender management: EstimateOne
- Spreadsheets: Microsoft Excel (non-negotiable — formulas, structured workbooks, formatting)
- Project tracking: TrackingTime, Airtable
- Communication: Gmail, Outlook, Slack
What We're Looking For
Required
- A degree in quantity surveying, construction management, civil engineering, architecture, or a related field
- At least 3 years of experience in construction estimating or quantity surveying
- Ability to read and interpret all types of construction documentation
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel — this is non-negotiable
- Excellent written English — you'll be drafting
- Organised and able to manage multiple tasks across different areas without things slipping
- Reliable internet connection and a quiet workspace
- Available to work during Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) business hours
- Honest and proactive — we'd rather you ask a question than guess
- Comfortable learning new software tools with minimal hand-holding
Preferred
- Experience with Australian construction methods, terminology, or standards (strongly preferred)
- Experience with any of the estimating or takeoff tools listed above
- Experience working remotely for international clients
- Exposure to both residential and commercial project types
- Previous experience managing inboxes or calendars for someone else
