JOB OVERVIEW

Explomo is looking for a talented YouTube thumbnail designer who understands cinematic storytelling and can translate a video’s atmosphere into a powerful visual that attracts viewers without compromising authenticity.

Explomo is a documentary-style YouTube channel focused on exploring abandoned places across Europe — from forgotten castles and noble mansions to untouched time-capsule homes and historic estates. Each episode uncovers the story of the people who once lived there and preserves these places before they disappear.

The channel currently has hundreds of videos and a large international audience, built around a consistent visual identity and a strong focus on atmosphere, history, and mystery.

Because of this, thumbnails need to do more than just look good — they must capture the story, tension, and curiosity of the exploration itself.

What we’re looking for

We are searching for someone who:
- Understands YouTube psychology and CTR-driven thumbnail design
- Can create thumbnails similar in style and impact to creators like this:

- Is able to watch a video and identify the key visual story or ---------- nt
- Can translate that ---------- nt into a thumbnail that sparks curiosity instantly
- Knows how to balance strong visual hooks with authenticity
- Understands that Explomo thumbnails should feel cinematic, mysterious, and real — not overly clickbait

Important qualities
The ideal candidate:
- Has experience designing YouTube thumbnails that perform well
- Has a strong eye for composition, lighting, and storytelling
- Can work with dramatic interiors, abandoned locations, and atmospheric scenes
- Is comfortable experimenting with ideas while keeping the Explomo brand identity consistent
- Understands that sometimes less is more — a single powerful image can outperform a cluttered design

Workflow
Typical workflow may look like this:
- Watch the video or selected ---------- nts.
- Identify the core story or discovery in the episode.
- Design a thumbnail that visually communicates that ---------- nt.
- Deliver multiple variations if needed for A/B/C testing.
