The Carrier Sales Representative is responsible for sourcing, vetting, and managing carrier partnerships to ensure reliable and cost-effective transportation coverage. This role focuses on contracting qualified drivers and carriers, negotiating rates, and securing capacity to cover customer shipments while maintaining strong service standards.
Key responsibilities include building and maintaining a network of trusted carriers, verifying compliance and safety requirements, and matching available capacity to open loads. The Carrier Sales Rep works closely with operations and customers to ensure on-time pickup and delivery, proactively resolving service issues and maintaining clear communication throughout the shipment lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
Source and contract qualified carriers and owner-operators
Vet carriers for safety, compliance, insurance, and performance standards
Negotiate competitive rates and secure capacity for available freight
Book and dispatch carriers on shipments
Monitor loads from pickup through delivery to ensure service expectations are met
Maintain accurate records of carrier performance and lane history
Develop long-term carrier relationships to strengthen network capacity
Experience:
Proven experience in carrier sales, freight brokerage, or logistics coordination
Proficiency with DAT, Sylectus, Highway, and Truckstop
Strong understanding of load boards, carrier vetting, and compliance processes
Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills
Ability to manage multiple shipments in a fast-paced environment
