The Opportunity
We're seeking an experienced Tax Preparer to join our remote team and take ownership of our tax preparation operations. This isn't a typical data-entry tax prep role - you'll be working with business owners, contractors, and high-net-worth individuals on complex returns including multi-state filings, cost segregation studies, and strategic tax planning implementations.

Core Responsibilities
Tax Preparation & Review:
• Prepare individual and business tax returns (1040, 1120, 1120S, 1065, 990)
• Handle multi-state tax returns and complex scenarios
• Review client-provided documentation for completeness and accuracy
• Implement tax planning strategies developed by our planning team
• Prepare amended returns and prior-year filings
• Calculate estimated tax payments and quarterly projections
Client Communication:
• Respond to client questions via
• Request missing documentation and follow up systematically
• Explain tax positions and filing strategies in clear, understandable terms
• Maintain professional communication standards that reflect our firm's values
Quality & Compliance:
• Ensure all returns meet IRS compliance standards
• Document research and support for tax positions
• Maintain organized digital files for each client
• Follow firm SOPs and quality control checklists
• Stay current on tax law changes affecting our client base
Systems & Process:
• Follow and improve upon established preparation workflows
• Use Drake Tax Software, Practice Management Software, and internal systems
• Document recurring issues and suggest process improvements
• Maintain detailed notes and work papers for review
Required Qualifications
Must-Haves:
• Minimum 3 years of tax preparation experience
• Strong working knowledge of US individual and business taxation
• Experience with Drake Tax Software (or ability to learn quickly)
• Proficient in Excel and comfortable with cloud-based systems
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
• High-speed internet connection and professional home office setup
• Availability during US business hours (Pacific Time preferred)
Highly Preferred:
• Experience with multi-state returns
• Knowledge of contractor/construction industry taxation
• Familiarity with cost segregation or fixed asset accounting
• Previous experience with tax resolution or IRS representation
• PTIN or equivalent credential (or willingness to obtain)

Compensation & Schedule
• Competitive salary based on experience (please include your rate expectation)
• Full-time position: 40 hours per week
• Schedule flexibility around Pacific Time business hours
• Seasonal flexibility during tax season (January-April may require additional hours)
• Performance-based increases as you demonstrate mastery
