JOB OVERVIEW

Location: Remote
Contract: 1month contract with potential for long-term extension
Hours: Fulltime (40 hours/week), must be available to work fully in India Standard Time (IST)

Uptime Crew is seeking a Technical Screener to support our interview pipeline for software engineering candidates. In this role, you will review coding assignments (Java or Python) and conduct structured 1:1 technical interviews to evaluate candidates’ reasoning, communication, and code quality. You must be fluent in either Java or Python, and comfortable interviewing candidates in both languages using our provided rubric and training.

This role requires someone who is highly reliable, professional, punctual, and has strong English communication skills - both spoken and written.

Key Responsibilities

Code Review
- Review coding assignments written in Java or Python
- Evaluate readability, structure, maintainability, naming, testing approach, and overall quality
- Provide clear and objective insights using our standardized rubric

Technical Screening Interviews
- Conduct 30minute video interviews with candidates
- Ask structured questions about their code, design choices, and problem-solving approach
- Interview candidates in both Java and Python, regardless of your primary language (structure and guidance provided)
- Assess communication, reasoning, and overall technical maturity
- Ensure every candidate receives a consistent, professional interview experience

Documentation & Reporting
- Complete detailed scorecards after each interview
- Provide objective, well written notes aligned with program standards
- Submit all scorecards same day to maintain pipeline efficiency

Collaboration
- Coordinate with the recruiting team on scheduling and daily interview flow
- Report trends, risks, or concerns related to candidate performance
- Participate in calibration and training sessions to maintain quality and consistency


Required Skills & Experience
- Fluency in Java or Python, with the ability to discuss and evaluate both languages
- Comfortable interviewing candidates in both Java and Python
- Strong English communication skills - clear, professional, and confident
- Ability to explain technical reasoning and evaluate decision-making
- Highly reliable, punctual, and process driven
- Ability to work 40 hours/week fully in IST
- Stable, highspeed internet suitable for video interviews

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience conducting technical interviews, screenings, or code reviews
- Experience mentoring or teaching junior developers
