[About Us]
Our academy, DBYs Coding Academy, runs a volunteer-based online coding tutoring program that connects US middle/high school student tutors with Filipino elementary and middle school students. Our goal is to provide free access to coding education while also giving US students valuable volunteer experience.
[About the Program]
- Free 1:1 online coding tutoring between US student tutors and Filipino students.
- Curriculum, scheduling, and technical support are provided.
- The program runs on our online platform. Students will receive guidance during their first session on how to join and participate in classes.
[Key Responsibilities]
- Student Recruitment:
--- Proactively recruit Filipino elementary or middle school students who meet the following criteria: (i) can understand English, (ii) are interested in basic coding, and (iii) can attend classes regularly on weekend mornings with a stable internet connection and computer.
--- Utilize your personal network, online communities, or other outreach channels to find and enroll suitable students.
Student Management:
--- Ensure recruited students join their classes every weekend.
--- Confirm student attendance and follow up during the week to encourage consistent participation.
--- If a student cannot attend an upcoming class, notify us at least 48 hours in advance.
Class Support:
- Before each class, check the connection between tutors and students to ensure a smooth start to the session.
[Qualifications]
- Strong communication skills in English.
- A responsible, reliable, and proactive personality.
- General computer proficiency.
- Required Equipment:
--- A computer or laptop.
--- Headset with a noise-canceling microphone.
--- Stable, wired internet connection (minimum 5 Mbps).
- A quiet and well-lit working environment.
[Working Conditions]
- Class Hour: 1 hour per week on a weekend morning (Saturday or Sunday). The exact schedule is negotiable (e.g., Sunday, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM PHT).
- Compensation: $10 USD per student for each 1-hour class they attend.
(Example: Recruiting and managing 5 students for a class earns you $50 USD for that week.)
- The program begins once you have successfully recruited a minimum of 2 students.
- You can manage a maximum of 7 students initially, with potential for expansion.
