Job Description – PV Designer
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled PV Designer to join our solar design team. The PV Designer will be responsible for creating accurate solar system designs, layouts, and electrical schematics that comply with building codes, utility requirements, and industry standards. This role is critical in ensuring that each project is technically sound, cost-effective, and installation-ready.
Key Responsibilities
Design residential and commercial photovoltaic (PV) systems using CAD and solar design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Helioscope, Aurora, PVsyst, SolarEdge Designer, or equivalent).
Prepare system layouts, single-line diagrams (SLDs), electrical wiring schematics, and equipment specifications.
Size and select components such as inverters, modules, batteries, racking, BOS, and conductors in compliance with NEC and AHJ codes.
Conduct shading analysis and performance modeling to optimize energy production.
Ensure designs meet utility interconnection requirements, AHJ permitting standards, and NEC regulations.
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and permitting teams to deliver accurate and timely design packages.
Revise designs based on feedback from AHJs, utilities, or field teams.
Maintain updated knowledge of solar technologies, design tools, and code changes.
Assist in developing standardized templates and design workflows to increase efficiency.
Provide technical support to installation teams during project execution.
Qualifications
Minimum 2–3 years of experience in solar PV design or related electrical design work.
Proficiency in AutoCAD (required) and familiarity with PV-specific tools (Aurora, Helioscope, PVsyst, or similar).
Strong understanding of NEC Article 690/705, local building codes, and utility interconnection requirements.
Knowledge of residential and commercial electrical systems.
Ability to interpret architectural/structural drawings and translate them into solar layouts.
Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation skills.
Strong communication skills to collaborate with project stakeholders.
Degree or certification in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field (preferred but not required if experienced).
Preferred Attributes
NABCEP PV Design Specialist or Installer Certification.
Experience designing solar + storage systems (Tesla Powerwall, Enphase, SolarEdge, etc.).
Experience with ground mount, flat roof, and complex racking systems.
Prior work with permitting portals (SolarAPP+, AHJ online systems).
Compensation & Benefits (customize as needed)
Competitive salary based on experience.
Health, dental, and vision insurance.
Paid time off and holidays.
Professional development opportunities (NABCEP, software training).
Growth potential in solar engineering and operations.
