Job Overview: We're seeking an experienced freelance graphic designer to create a new map of the New York City subway system. The design should be inspired by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) map, known for its simplicity, clarity, and user-friendly layout. The ideal candidate should have experience working on large-scale projects and possess a strong ability to present complex information visually while maintaining accuracy and aesthetics.
What You’ll Do:
Design the NYC Subway Map: Create a clean and intuitive subway map for NYC and nearby regions, reflecting the clear design style of WMATA’s map.
Focus on Accuracy and Simplicity: Ensure that routes and stations are accurately represented while keeping the design visually appealing and easy to navigate.
Collaborate and Revise: Incorporate feedback, make necessary adjustments, and maintain effective communication throughout the project to keep it on track.
Deliver High-Quality Outputs: The final deliverable should be a high-resolution digital map and the original source files.
What We’re Looking For:
Experience in graphic design, especially with maps or complex design projects.
Proficiency in design software like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop, or similar software.
Strong attention to detail, with an ability to balance aesthetics and functionality. Please include the word 'Red' in the subject line.
A portfolio showing relevant work, especially in city or transit mapping.
What You’ll Deliver:
A high-resolution NYC subway map in both print and digital formats.
The source files for the design.
A short write-up explaining key design choices.
Several rounds of revisions based on feedback.
Requirements:
Proven graphic design experience.
Experience in map design or similar complex projects.
Proficiency in design software (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.).
Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
Pay: I am open to negotiable based on your experience, preferably a fixed price arrangement.
