Key Responsibilities
Prepare individual income tax returns, including Form 1040 returns with complex Schedule E rental activity, Schedule C businesses, investment activity, and multi-entity ownership.
Prepare business tax returns, including Forms 1120S, 1065, and 1120.
Review client-provided documents for completeness, accuracy, and tax relevance.
Identify missing information, inconsistencies, or potential tax issues before returns are finalized.
Prepare and/or assist with sales tax filings and related compliance.
Research and respond to IRS and state tax notices.
Assist with tax projections, planning support, and year-round client questions as needed.
Communicate with clients and internal tea
Maintain organized workpapers and documentation to support tax positions.
Follow firm procedures, checklists, and quality control standards.
Stay current on tax law changes that impact individuals and closely held businesses.
Required Experience
Experience preparing Form 1040 individual income tax returns.
Experience with complex Schedule E rental real estate activity.
Experience with Schedule C sole proprietor/business returns.
Experience preparing S Corporation tax returns, Form 1120S.
Experience preparing partnership tax returns, Form 1065.
Experience preparing C Corporation tax returns, Form 1120.
Experience with sales tax compliance and filings.
Experience responding to IRS and state tax notices.
Strong understanding of tax compliance for small business owners and closely held entities.
Ability to review source documents and identify when something is missing, incorrect, or inconsistent.
Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
Comfortable using tax software, accounting software, portals, spreadsheets, and other technology.
Preferred Experience
Experience working in a CPA, EA, or tax/accounting firm environment.
Experience with real estate investors, rental properties, short-term rentals, medical practices, wellness practices, or service-based businesses.
Experience with QuickBooks Online, Xero, Gusto, payroll reports, sales tax reports, and client accounting records.
Experience assisting with tax planning or tax projections.
Experience communicating directly with clients in a professional setting.
EA, CPA, CPA candidate, or actively pursuing a tax credential is a plus, but not required if experience is strong.
