Part-time, FLEXIBLE HOURS Accounting Controller / Bookkeeper

Productive Right Now is virtual outsourced accounting company that specializes in working with various small business. Our clients industries currently include medical, private equity and real estate investing. It offers accrual basis bookkeeping and controller level accounting services. All of our clients are in the United States.

Position Summary: Productive Right Now has an immediate opening for a Controller Level Accountant. Candidate must have strong analytical, organizational and communication skills. Candidate must be effective at multi-tasking with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines. This position will work closely with the company's owner in the United States and fellow teammates in the Philippines. Under the general guidance of the owner and teammate, the accountant will be responsible for ALL accounting services to the client with some exceptions, like signing off on the books for the month. The candidate must think proactively and take ownership of his or her responsibilities, make suggestions for improvement, and overall have an esprit de corps attitude and determination to our success. This is a PART TIME position which will encompass many different clients' books and duties. You must be FLEXIBLE and able to change and adapt to different needs of the position.

Responsibilities will include:
o Entering all transactions into the accounting software (QuickBooks Desktop)
o Reconciling bank and credit card accounts
o Entering accrual and deferral adjusting accounting entries
o Entering in complicated journal entries that require intelligent thinking
o Preparing month end reports
o Analyzing Income statements by class and month-over-month, investigate errors and make corrections
o Analyzing balance sheets month-over-month, investigate errors and make corrections
o Monitoring bank balances to ensure there is enough cash to cover monthly expenses
o Interacting with the team through Slack, Trello, email, Skype or Google Hangouts
o Communicating directly with clients via email
o Keeping track of monthly, quarterly or annual deadlines (using Google Calendar and other tools)
o Sorting and filing documents in Google Drive (or Google Drive File Stream)
o Innovating and make suggestions on how to improve our workflow / accounting systems
o Other duties as they come up

Responsibilities may include:
o Analyzing and reconciling balance sheet accounts with external spreadsheets (e.g. investor databases)
o Using 3rd party apps that link to QuickBooks Desktop (e.g. importing transactions)
o Managing and processing accounts receivable
o Managing and processing accounts payable
o Processing payroll and all related employer taxes
o Independent problem solving which might include making creative Excel spreadsheets
o Preparing budgets
o Continuing education on accounting, productivity and other business-related topics, tools and apps

o Must have fast internet and a good computer system set up


Education Requirements:
o Accounting degree

Experience Requirements:
o Minimum 3 years of fulltime accounting and bookkeeping experience
o Controller duty level experience
o Proficient in QuickBooks Desktop (or QuickBooks Online)
o Skilled in Microsoft Excel (able to navigate through or build complicated spreadsheets)
o Able to work alone (remotely) in all phases of accounting: from paying the bills to preparing monthly financials.
o Must be able to problem solve, multi task efficiently, organize and prioritize multiple tasks with little to no supervision.
o Good verbal and written English skills

My two biggest pet peeves with anyone who joins my team:
o Lack of communication
o Lack of consistency and attention to detail

Attitude Requirements:
o A problem solver who thinks independently to solve any road blocks in their work
o Someone who tries to solve problems by themselves. But after 5 minutes of trying with no success, compiles a list of questions to the team for answers.
o Proactive in addressing or resolving issues before an event happens (e.g. request invoices to pay from client instead of waiting for client to send them over; or notifying the client and/or team about low bank balances.)
o Able to easily change and evolve to new ideas, work flow, and operating procedures.
o Must be an excellent communicator - e.g. keep me updated on progress, come up with solutions, etc
o Must be open to critiquing of work - we have standards with what we do; these small details make the difference; attention to detail is important. YOU MUST MASTER OUR SYSTEM FIRST BEFORE YOU SUGGEST AND IMPLEMENT CHANGES.
